This is for all us beach diving fans, surfers and coastal visitors... appears the Malibu crowd has a new twist on keeping us from enjoying the surf and our ocean...

MALIBU (CBS) — Residents of Malibu who don’t want beach visitors parking in front of their high priced homes are reportedly taking matters into their own hands.

Locals in the exclusive community and highly trafficked tourist hot spot have been posting fake no parking signs along Pacific Coast Highway. The signs are illegal, but often look so legitimate they earn violators parking citations.

“Tourists come and they’re here eight hours, the whole day,” says one resident. “So they take up all the parking spots.”

Malbu’s mayor pro tem Laura Rosenthal says the signs can be easily ordered on the internet.

The California Coastal Commission is investigating signs on wooden posts near Geoffrey’s restaurant, many of which they say are bogus.

Rosenthal says residents are being warned, and drivers who have been victimized by the fake signs have recourse.

“The city would work with them, and the sheriff’s department, and the parking enforcement,” says Rosenthal. “If we find out that was not a legitimate sign, we would definitely be working with the person that got that ticket.”
