thur night bug dive laguna |

We dived an area " near Laguna Beach" that is still open to the take of finfish and spiny lobster. I cannot disclose the location due to the potential heavy pressure on the local bug population due to the recent marine life closures. Conditions were very nice, 2' surf, up to 20' vis, 57 degree water and huge kelp beds. We weeded through an army of short bugs and heavy commercial traps in order to scrape up 4 legal bugs between us three divers. Not spectacular, but a fun dive and it was nice to be able to hunt bugs and enjoy the resource of California Spiny Lobster. One note was the abundance of Abalone on this dive, we saw several ledges that held multiple Abs, I am not an expert on Abs, but I guess them to be Green abs. I have noticed increasing numbers of Abalone at our Laguna Beach dive sites over the last few years, perhaps the Abs are making a comeback in our waters.
