Hurricane Sandy is tragedy. This is a ridiculous dive community in Seattle that has turned a learning situation into a grotesque drama-dey. Okay by all accounts a smart-ass kid legally killed a GPO and then tried to mind his own business. Judge him however you want. Then some self-appointed members of the ocean morality police decide to step in. They confornt the dude, take pictures and promptly post them on the local dive board. Within two posts, they've broken down the photos to get his liscense plate number, the name off his sweatshirt, which more people use to cyberstalk the guy down. They then threaten him, dive shops that do business with him, and anyone who tries to be a voice of reason. These ocean morality cop after some hemming and hawing then say they don't want to punish the kid event though they provided all the wood and gasoline to torch him. Pathetic group up there IMHO. These morality police then crank up the pr machine and get pretty pictures of themselves in the paper and TV, achieveing what I would assume was there ultimate goal, psuedo scuba celebrity status.
GPO are amazing anaimals that are not in any way threatened and are legal to take. The hunter did not deserve what these a-holes did to him. If they do turn the location into an MPA one, I'm sure the self-righteous folks who took it unto themselves to sacrafice this guy will stand on his body looking for all the credit.
