Don't you think ditchable weight is relevant in the overall discussion?

Since the original scenario discussed involved overweighting and an uncontrolled ascent (although, of course, in subsequent posts, this proved not to be the case), the issue of ditchable weight seems really relevant to me. If you end up loading yourself with too much non-ditchable weight, you put yourself in a dangerous situation no matter how properly your overall weighting is. I think Michael was just being responsible in including this in his post.
