frank, the concept of a 'mentor system' is wonderful,
the question is how can we as a dive community
implement this in a general sense? clubs are fine,
but there are some of us (including me) who have
tried that route and found that w/a certain schedule,
it just doesn't work out.

i would love to buddy up w/a newbie and teach them
what i have learned myself. i have been fortunate
to literally stumble upon very experienced divers
and i've been blessed to dive w/them and to even
gain a regular buddy of my own--but that was more
like luck at work.

but how can we go about implementing/combining a 'mentor
system' WITHIN the course structure?? wouldn't
it be great if the agencies/shops had something like this?
a list of experienced local divers who would not
mind being contacted by newbies who want to go
out and dive w/them???? jim? ken? can we get
something locally started that doesn't tie
people down to a specific club but is like a
network system to link local divers w/newly
certified divers...?...yeah, there is also the
small listing w/in 'california diving news',
but sometimes divers there are looking for
someone very very specific.

...just a thought...

kelphead.
