All good points, but I don't think switching to a back plate solves the problem because, you still have a bladder and power inflator that could fail just as easily as my balance BCD. Also, wouldn't divers that use double bladder wings on their back plate system be doubling their problems?
It seems whichever system divers choose to use there are several potential failure points, but these failure points can be avoided through proper maintenance and taking care of their BCD.
