From what you're illustring then Naui should ammend their text. Page 66 Adventures in Scuba Diving it says to breath deeper and more slowly then normal. So if your doing a safety stop or ascending during big swells and you are taking that big slow breath then you could rupture the lungs. By the way I have never followed that advice thats probably why I'm still alive. During big swells and ascending from the stop I breathe much more shallow then normal.
