Lobsters that loose antenae or legs can survive and do grow back those limbs. Please see Kristine Barsky's book California Lobster Diving. She is a DFG biologist and qualified to attest to lobster's ability to regenerate lost limbs. I will agree that lobsters that loose more than three limbs probably won't survive but they will be used as food for another predator. Is that worse than being taken by a diver?

You specifically said, "I personally believe that sport divers have a much greater negative impact on the fish populations that we realize because, although we count the animals we catch, we never take into account the ones we maim or mortally wound and leave on the bottom to die or be eaten by other predators."

Tell me how your statement relates to fish please because I don't understand how or why divers free or scuba just "leave (fish) on the bottom to die."

Thanks
