Who said anything about Monterey being in SoCal? Monterey is in Central California. A unique marine and terrestrial ecosystem. And yes I am a biologist who has worked in this state from end to end.
Also, although I was born in SoCal, I've lived in Northern California since 1978. I'm in Sonoma County now.
Monterey is one of my favorite places. To lump it and the rest of Central California into the north or south ignores the uniqueness of the region.
As for the water - O.K. You can have the Pajaro, we'll keep the rest up here! ;)
