We usally work with no compensation at all. In fact, we often pay out of pocket to help. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy it and no one is forcing me to do this. A true economic analysis needs to include the DM's inputs too though.

I did get tipped by one student (out of a couple hundred or so). He's since become a DM himself.

These descriptions of classes at Catalina just amaze me! The highest ratio that I have ever witnessed was 4 to 1 - and that is exceptionally high in my direct experience. I typically work in classes with ratios of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1. SoCal instruction sounds like a differnt world.
