i dive in So Cal all year 'round in a wetsuit, a really, cruddy, torn up, restitched old beat up one. If you are in the Orange County, South or Eastern part of LA county, you might try and check out Scuba Toys in Cypress, between the 91, 405, 5 and the 605. There are some great instructors there, and some very good gear configurations that you can try on. The thing about drysuits being the only option for SoCal doesn't smell right.
