Refugio State Beach is a great spot to dive.
The park offers plenty of shade, fresh water
(including showers) and a large grass area with
comfortable benches. The dive is in a relatively
protected area and about 100 yard swim off the
beach to the rocks northwest. It's fairly shallow,
may be 35ft at the most.
Currents are rare but possible and waves are
mostly low.
There is a lot of life on the reef including a
kelp bed. Since the reef is shallow it can be
quite surgy.
The gate to the park opens at 800a and the
entrance is $5.00. You may want to be there early,
especially on a weekend.
