Mike-

The issue really centers around those with little or no information wanting to hammer you on something they know little about. They do none of their own research but read the Dan rag. Now mike has put the time and effort into independent research and has a grasp on the effects of his actions (much more than 99.9% of the diving public) so I see nothing wrong with his personal choice. Myself I would have no problem doing several types of dives where I completed the ascent rate/deco obligation within my personal limits and getting on a plane. Sometimes you really have to look at things and ask if they make sense. Dan has those limits for a reason. Those limits are for the attorneys and those that can't calculate their own decompressions or want to just 'be sure'. Do what you feel comfortable with but trying to beat up a golden gloves champion when you just got out of the first day of boxing class isn't your best bet.
