Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming the survivor, but rather both divers. A proper plan and predive discussion (briefing) could have prevented this.

When we dive with others we need to go over many things including what ends the dive and how it will end. I'll bet the newbie knew this from recent training, but conveniently "forgot" it to appear confident in front of others.

It is time for us old guys to take the lead and be vocal and obvious about running the checklist and plans through before we get in the water.

I believe that if the newbies saw the oldtimers doing this, they would be more more likely to do it as well.

My condolences to all those affected.
