Ken, I have always felt that beach diving is part of the diving culture in So. California. For most here in SoCal, beach diving is the cheapest and most assessable way to dive. Ken I think that by not teaching beach diving you are doing your students a disservice (you should at lest do a skin dive at the beach with them).
Like many other aspects of diving, beach diving can’t be taught from a book. You have to feel it, you have to see, you have to do it, to learn about it. New divers, first beach dives should be under the supervision of an Instructor (one that knows what they are doing, I see many instructors at the beach that don’t have a clue about beach diving or teaching for that matter).
Beach diving is a big part of our local environment. New divers should have first hand experience with it.
