Thank you, Bob. Sounds like the Y has the right idea. I've had people ask me if they need to be a good swimmer to be a good diver. I know this may attract opposition, but I frankly don't know how one can avoid good swimming skills and be a good diver. Good basic skills, which include, by my definition, good stamina in the water, are requisite to diving anywhere. Some techniques may need to be acquired and exposure protection may need to be modified, depending on the environment, but the basics, and anything which helps develop and refine them (like free diving and swimming), apply to everything.
