"Depends on species. For some fish, all that is mentioned is a daily bag limit.

But for lobster, abalone, and many other game, the DFG regulations specifically say the total amount that you can have in your possession at any given time. And by possession, they mean not only how many are in your goody bag, but also how many you have in your freezer at home."

29.90. Spiny Lobsters.
(a) Open season: From the Saturday preceding the first Wednesday in October
through the first Wednesday after the 15th of March.
(b) Limit: Seven.
(c) Minimum size: Three and one-fourth inches measured in a straight line on the
mid-line of the back from the rear edge of the eye socket to the rear edge of the body
shell. Any lobster may be brought to the surface of the water for the purpose of
measuring, but no undersize lobster may be brought aboard any boat, placed in any
type of receiver, kept on the person or retained in any person’s possession or under
his direct control; all lobsters shall be measured immediately upon being brought
to the surface of the water, and any undersize lobster shall be released immediately
into the water.

Eric Frasco---The DFG regulations don't specifically say that!!! What it says in section 29.90.(c) is referering to the minimum size, not the bag limit.
Hungry Hunter---If frozen in water, the lobster tails you snagged at the end of last season will still be good all the way up to the beginning of next season. Don't take the shorts though, leave them for next year. If you dive enough you will get your limit some days, but others all you'll get is a bunch of short bugs. On those days just go home empty handed and look forward that next limit.

Happy Hunting,
Roach Killer
