I found Kendall's post too convoluted, ("…AL/AA issue in recreational set-ups often miss the fact that it's context specific. Ditchable v. nonditchable weight is that context and it's not black and white.") However, I appreciate his effort. I would offer that his point at the end "Really, calling this issue a steel v, aluminum issue is inaccurate. It's a
ditchable v. non ditchable issue" should have been at the beginning.

I also find that it is annoying to have a floating tank on my back "An empty AL80 is +4 pounds in salt water." A tank that rests on the torso - "An empty HP80 is -1 pounds in salt water", is better to deal with.
In other words, I would rather have a small amount weight on my back than an size hook pulling me up.

Lastly, swimming up 10-15 lbs of bugs, weights, anchors, etc. from 120 ft is not death defying or difficult. It reads worse in print until you actually do it.

Fear sells but experience tells.
