Right. Its a more of a "all or nothing" proposition with digital media since its all encoded in a binary form and not analog. I get more artifcacts (pixelating, etc) when I convert VHS tapes into digital format through the A/D conversion - they look fairly poor considering the resolution difference between VHS and miniDV! I have yet to have a tape fail on me and I was skeptical that these small and thin tapes could handle multiple uses but I have used at least 4 tapes over 10 times (obviously nothing important)w/o any loss of video information - still waiting to see how long it takes before they fail. As for taping things I consider important, I use the tape once and store it in an archive - at $2/tape its cheap enough to keep the original in an archive (IMO).
