Nikon makes at least a couple of ED scanners. But
they are all pretty recent and similar.
Try turning off digital ICE. Digital ICE works by
having a fourth scan (besides RGB) in the IR range.
In normal color slides and negs, dust and
scractches are opaque to IR, but everything
else is transparent. That lets Digital ICE know
where the dust and scratches are, and then it can
interpolate from the good pixels around them. Scala
may well have a strange response to IR.
