ear problems from a rough dive |
Posted by Gregg M on October 16, 2005 at 23:40:30: I blew out an eardrum due to heavy surge opening day on the Great Escape. Contrary to what you may read, the GE does venture out in open water, but I wish on oepning day we were not at Cortes!!(That's not totally true, the bug count was good, but I got hurt) The swells were huge! It was breaking at the wreck over 20 foot, and the surge was incredible. I was swept up an underwater incline, didn't equalize fast enough, and blew out the ear. I was slaying bugs, but after a round of vertigo on the next dive, I hung up my reg. I was a bit concerned that when I equalized air came out of my ear. And on the way down, salt water entered my mouth from my ear...a first for me. My question is, when is this ringing going to stop? When will I feel like I don't have water in my left ear? Has anyone ever blown out an eardrum and lost hearing??
