I once saw a picture of that set-up - just tank and webbing (but I'd add a small wing behond the back). The wetsuit would provide ample chshion, especially with a decent spine pad. It would freak out at least one divemaster I know, though.

Most dive with far too much lead, then compensate by adding air. They then wonder why thier air consumption 'sux' - they are dragging what amounts to a parachute around as they swim.
