Last Wednesday we has a 4.4 meter (14 feet 6 inch) Oarfish spend the day swimming around the cove at the USC/Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina. It was obviously distressed, they only come into shallow water when they're sick or dying. Late in the afternoon is swam into the shallows and died. We (the staff at the Institute) preserved it and shipped it to the LA County Museum of Natural History where it will be fixed and displayed.

Various people took about 60 surface and underwater still and video images of the fish, which we collected on a server. The server is private, but if someone will post a primer on how I put a jpeg image on the BBS, I'll post some of them.
