A lot of snow board shops and skateboard and whatever else sort of outdoor activities are small business owners. But they don't mark up 100%, and they tend to be much more friendly than a lot of the dive store owners I've encountered.

There are plenty of friendly shops out there, Laguna Sea Sports, Pacific Wilderness, etc.

But then there are those straight up a-holes like the guy who owns Openwater Habitat. That guy is a pompous jerk.
