After reading the post above, it occurred to me that exactly how the location codes are broken down will make a big difference in how quickly divers go through reporting cards. I therefore emailed the DFG to ask about the location codes, and received the response below. As you can see, if a boat goes to, say, Catalina and does several dives there, you'd only need to use one line on the card, since Catalina is considered a single location. On the other hand, if you did some dives around Malaga Cove and then motored around the corner to the kelp between Flat Rock and Palos Verdes Point, you'd need to use two lines on the card. Note that the DFG person who responded indicated that this location code list is in a draft state at this point, so it could change. -------------------------------------- Here are the draft location codes from the current draft of the spiny lobster report card.
