The trick is to watch the swell model for a break in the NW swell. If the swell is only pumping out of the south, Malaga is going to be flat and possibly clear. I've had some great snorkeling/free-diving there in the late spring / early summer months. Casino Point is an interesting spot for free divers but with the quick drop off, snorkeling is limited. If your interested in more remote snorkeling / free diving spots, I would recommend Christmas Tree and Honeymoon cove on the Palos Verdes peninsula. These spots average 15ft or greater visibility and have very interesting structure to explore in the shallows.
