I don't think it is a drag issue but more of a KISS issue. DIR uses bottom timers (and compass, if needed) on the wrist. Bottom timers include a depth gauge, a computer is not used. So, now your console is stripped of the compass, the depth gauge, and only the SPG remains. Voila.
