Yes, computers vary widely in conservatism. I dove with both my NiTek3 and my Marathon/Skinny Dipper. When the Marathon said I had 11 hours before flying the NiTek3 said 22. The NDL's varied as much as 10 minutes on some dives and ascent rates varied, too.
Yes, all computers are "one size fits all", but then so are the tables.
A big what if: what if all divers adopted the DIR gear configuration/requirements, wouldn't that leave only 4 companies in DEMA: Scubapro, Halcyon, DUI, and DiveRite? That's a spreading perception, or should it be MISperception?
