The PADI instructors in the GUE courses will still be bound by the PADI written protocols, when teaching the PADI OW1 classes. The upcoming PADI "tek" class may very well be structured differently than the OW1, but its hard to imagine it going much beyond that.

For example, a "horizontal" ascent and descent is inconsistent with the PADI current doctrine of students ascending and decending vertically, fins down, heads up.

And tank boot removal? Think of the hundreds of tanks a typical PADI dive center fills. Without boots on them, the tanks could become problematic to fill. Do you think the dive boat companies will consider removing all the boots from all their tanks on all their boats?

Those are just little things. The scuba industry is dynamic and things are always changing. It seems like it is even too dynamic to move towards any common set of protocols. Seems like there will always be several.
