and buy yourself the Wheel, and learn how to use it. Unless you are only going to to square profiles. On most dives, which are multi level, the tables are useless.

I started diving by planning dives with the wheel and it was a great learning tool.

If you want to go to a computer, which IMO is not necessarily a bad thing, make sure you still know the theory.

I would suggest nitrox compatible, as you may want to go that route in the future.

I have used the Oceanic Data Plus - about $300. The Prodigy (not nitrox) is less. I also use a Suunto Cobra - got it for about $550 US, Vyper (non air integrated version) is less, they also come in watches (Stinger, Spyder, Mosquito).

www.simplyscuba.com beats most local computer prices by a good 30%, but it's overseas so there are warranty issues.
