Any recommendations on dive computers?

Please let me know if any of you have recommendations for dive computers. It would also be helpful if you gave me a ballpark figure on the cost of the model you suggest. In addition, let me know if you might have concerns about a beginner diver using a dive computer. I read a few things that suggest a novice diver should stick to the tables. Let me know if you agree with this and why.
