I was in NY this weekend and we did a couple of dives with teh rec.scuba boys. We did the wreck on the Anotcha, which sat in 120' and for NY we had great conditions. We left out of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn and had no swells, no current and about 40' vis.
We were thinking of doing a Sunday dive as well and the skipper was telling us about an new artifical reef that was sunk 3 days earlier. My question to the wreckers out there is as follows:
The skipper was bragging that the ship went down and they had already stripped 10 of the 18 portholes off the wreck and he was even telling us what size sockets and tools we should bring for if we wanted a porthole. In my view that really isn't *find* so I'm wondering what you guys think of taking portholes of an artifical reef a few days after it sunk.. It seems to me it's a lot like going hunting for a deer in a fenced in area when the deer is on drugs.. It just doesn't seem kosher to me.. There's no challenge..
What's your thoughts???????
