Your kids don't know how to swim?!?!

When my mom was in charge of the swimming instruction staff for the South Bay YMCA's, she started kids off in the pool at 3 mths. I started younger. Instead of getting a babysitter when she worked, she tossed me in the pool. By the time I was 5 or 6, I was banished to the deep end because I was teasing the 10 y.o. kids who were afraid of the water and just starting to learn. Actually, they were just starting to unlearn their fear of the water. Very young kids are not afraid of water, it's a learned reaction. The younger kids start, the easier it is for them to learn to be safe and comfortable in the water.

Regardless of the kids scuba issue, all children should learn to be safe in the water as young as possible.

BTW. I grew up being taken to dive club meetings. My older brother got certified then, but I was told that I was too young.
