The DFG is pursuing a case against an individual who DFG thinks may have made $15,000 or more -- this season alone -- selling poached lobster. If you can, particularly if you live in Los Angeles County, please send a letter to the prosecutor emphasizing the need for strong punishment of those who poach for commercial sale. Be polite. Prosecutors are generally happy to seek strong penalties when they get the sense that this is what the community wants.

There are two places to send letters (you may want to send one to the DA and send a copy to the DDA, or vice versa):

Steve Cooley is the LA District Attorney. His address is:

Steve Cooley
District Attorney's Office
County of Los Angeles
210 West Temple Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012-3210
Voice (213) 974-3512
Fax (213) 974-1484
lada@co.la.ca.us

Steve Huggard is the Deputy District Attorney (the actual prosecutor assigned to this case), but this may change to Mark Goldman. His address is:

Steve Huggard
District Attorney's Office
10025 East Flower Street
Bellflower, CA 90706
Room 374, Third Floor
562-804-8085

Your letter should include the following information:

Main defendant -- HAND, Jon Michael
Court -- Los Cerritos Municipal Court
Case No. -- 2LC02232
Arraignment Date -- August 8, 2002
