Not only do we lose the squid itself but we risk losing every fish & mammal that feeds on said squid... and every fish & mammal that in turn feeds on them. I think this depletion of our local biomass which sustains life up & down the food chain should stop... now. It's bad for the long term health of this entire California marine ecosystem which by my puny estimation is about 10,000 times more important than the personal wealth of the participants in the squid fishery. Maybe someday they will discover that what they take out and sell abroad is leaving everyone along the California coast bereft of a vibrant and healthy living ocean... not that they give a shit about any of that. Maybe after they kill everything that swims they can move north and become loggers.
