I've reused some of my MiniDV tapes over 10 times without any problems. Since the tape holds digital information there is no degradation in the quality of information as long as the tape can hold the "ones and zeros" - when the tape goes you're going to loose your video information but there shouldn't be the gradual loss of quality like with analog signals. If you're taping something important, better to use a new tape after pre-striping it.
