| slight rust in steel tank |
|
Posted by Gregg on August 12, 2008 at 23:42:26: I took my steel 95 in to sport chalet Laguna Niguel to get an air fill today. The tank needed a visual and of course they said it was rusted and needed to be tumbled. The tank only had one fill in the last year…from sport chalet HQ after a hydro and a tumble. Unless the tank is filled with 0% humidity of course it will have some rouging. I told them I didn’t want the tank tumbled because it just decreases the tank thickness by removing a small layer of metal to remove the rust but the sport chalet expert told me tumbling actually “relines” the tank with more steel…an explanation I find to be incredible based on 25 years of experience in process piping engineering….How can you “add” metal to a tank lining by rolling a bunch of steel balls around in it? Is this just some guys over zealous visual or does this tank with a slight rust rouging really need to be tumbled?? Any advice? |
