OK, so what's the problem the pony is for?

It's not for extending your dive. Get a bigger tank
for that.

It's not for "DUH I didn't look at my gauges" OOA.
Look at your gauges.

It's for a massive airsupply failure. How often
do those happen? And that's what buddies are for.

You can only carry so much stuff.

If your buddy doesn't stick with you, get another
buddy.

Skin diving instead of scuba isn't an issue to
most of us, because we can't do the dive without
a tank.

A properly mounted backup second stage isn't an
entanglement hazard -- It's hard to entangle
something under your chin.

A canister light properly mounted to the waistband
is out of the slipstream below your armpit. Your
shoulders deflect the entanglement (or catch it,
but that has nothing to do with the cannister
light).
