In the course materials "they" say it is not safer than air. I tend to disagree as to me it is safer -- but because I dive Nitrox to AIR limits. In this way, I can gain advantages in reduced nitrogen in my system and remain further from harm's way. When diving Nitrox to its limits you are no safer than diving air to its limits. You only gain that benefit of being les fatigued (if you are an old geezer like me). And let's not forget that Nitrox has depth limits that can be deadly if violated. Not that it is difficult to safely dive Nitrox, but you do need to pay attention to the details.
