It most certainly is verbal gymnastics when you claim
that a victim was solo divin when in fact his buddies
failed him.
If you're going to attack Ken for his inexplicable dictomy
of accepting soloing but not nitrox, you have to acknowledge
that soloing was not what killed most of the people in our
waters this year. The lack of a useful buddy to bail them out
was the final cause, but certainly not the primary.
If we want to make California safer for divers, it's far
more effective to attack the joke that is taught as the
buddy system in too many OW courses. These divers are taught
nothing, and then they see the rest of us out diving alone.
Then you get the worst of both worlds - divers that can't
go either way with a acceptable level of safety.
I do look forward to seeing JJ's course book for the
GUE OW diving course. Is that still coming RSN? I would
be willing to DM for an instructor teaching a course
based on it, or the equilivent.
