Equipment failure

I don’t understand the paranoia about equipment failures being posted. What I read is don’t use a computer because IF it FAILS, don’t dive steel tanks because IF your BC FAILS. Have your second handy IF your Buddies Regulator FAILS.
Am I the only one that maintains my gear so that I PREVENT failures by extensive care and recommended maintenance?
I understand that the accidents due to equipment failure are small.
