Why do regs freeze

Hi I am trying t figure out why regs freeze I guess its the air passing through a small orifice causing friction somebody did tell me how fast air in a tank will travel through a hose and it was pretty quick, the same question why does a tank valve start to freeze up if it discharges rapidly ??
