All technical divers see things from a couple of differen philosophies, yet they do overlap in many respects. DIR does stress gear configuration no doubt. The point is Tribes is not talking about any particular person or agency right now, he is speaking about basic safety while at that depth. I can not see why this should be upsetting. If proper gas management was adhered to by the sport divers there would be fewer OOA situations. Your last statment, who is treating divers as babies? Why would you want to go back to when there was not as much knowlege as there is to date?
