Swimming from Oil Rig

So lets say that you were stranded and 1/4 mile down current from the oil rig. You realize that you can't swim to the rig against the current. What would be a good ACTIVE plan of ACTION. Drifting would not be an option. Do you think that a diver in good shape could swim ashore having dumped all his gear save his wetsuit and fins.
