Jim, I agree with 100% and I never hold my breath when I'm shallow and especially when there is a swell.
Sometimes shooting film or pictures I do hold my breath, otherwise I wouldn't get the shot. I don't recommend it though so don't do this. By the time I'm ready to shoot the picture I have my bouyancy dialed in to where when I breath in I ascend and when I breath out I descend. Taking half a breath I'm nuetral, thats what I go for.
Jim, question at depth say 33' with a full breath to fill the lungs. The lungs are compressed by 2atm and are 1/2 their normal size and bodily fluids fill in the gap between the ribs and exterior wall of the lung. At what depth if one were to hold their breath and ascend would the lung rupture?
