There are times where head up and feet down makes sense. There are times when head down swimming down quickly makes sense. And horizontal has its place, too.

An experienced diver needs to be able to evaluate the situation and choose the correct position for the dive. Face up horizontal is one I can't think of as being very useful.

ANd while I am typing, the PADI Superman ascent has its place, too. I hate to see folks bumping into boats and other obstructions. And in high boat traffic areas, it is nice to be seen! Light in hand on opening night of bug season for example.

We need to be flexible and adapt to the needs of a given dive. The needs can change while we are diving, so we need to be able to adapt.
