Are you saying that some shops have stopped doing this skill as some sort of way of making their classes safer? If so I have a hard time believing it. Which agency are they affiliated with?
And it is true that an ascent line and a sharp instructor can vastly improve safety, but since none of us were there, it is hard to say what happened and what went wrong.
