You need to read more carefully. I never said I
was doing surface intervals shorter than hour, I
said I was doing surface intervals LONGER than an
hour. My words were:
"Once again: a one hour surface interval doesn't
work for me. It's not enough time to stow the
gear, pull the hook, go whale or dolphin watching,
have lunch, decide where to go, drop the hook, and
gear up. Today's surface interval was 1:55."
I have no desire to do deco diving, though I'm
quite familiar with the theory and practice. I'm
a recreational diver, and it takes enough time to
prep cameras and boat without adding the extra
tech gear. And tech divers of all persuasions
seem to get bent with some regularity.
Dive master? No. As I said earlier, the two dumbest
things I've ever seen done in Monterey were both
done by DMs who were very proud of their DM certs.
And I have no desire to work in the dive industry
(being a software nerd pays MUCH better, and I
love the work). There's NOTHING in it for me to
become a divemaster.
