LOS ANGELES -- An autopsy was pending Monday on the body of a scuba diver who died after being taken to a hyperbaric chamber on Santa Catalina Island, the coroner's office reported.

The man, in his 30s, died late Saturday night, said David Campbell of the coroner's office. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his next-of-kin.

According to the preliminary report, the man was diving near the island when he became entangled in an anchor line about 40 feet below the surface, Campbell said.

The man's diving partner brought him to the surface and called 911, and the diver was brought to the hyperbaric chamber in Avalon, where he died, Campbell said.
