As the individual who oversaw the elimination of goats from the island (as V.P. of the Catalina Conservancy), I'm glad to say no one will be seeing this kind of thing in the future. Must admit, it must have been pretty interesting to watch. However, these four legged devils were seriously damaging the natural ecosystems of the island and, along with introduced pigs, had raised the spectre of the local extinction of a number of native species.

The deer have now taken their place, and are in need of serious control if not removal due to the lack of predators. Although the deer at least are native to California, they were introduced to the island in the early 30's.

Yes, I know... they're cute and cuddly. However I prefer my deer on my dinner plate!
